Random Annoying Relative: Sveinbjörn, so you're studying philosophy? What are you going to do with a degree in philosophy?
Annoyed Sveinbjörn: I'm going to think deep thoughts about being unemployed...

Blessaður, Sindri
Já, það er actually til eitthvað meira useless: Women's Studies, eða Kvennafræði, eins og þetta heitir vist á íslensku -- 3 ár af gruelling menntun þar sem þú lærir um hversu illa sé farið með konur í vestrænum samfélögum, og hvernig konur hafa sérstakt "Ethic of Care" og hafa svo mikinn styrk í sér og blablabla....
Don't forget "theodicy", which as you most likely know is a sub-branch of (Christian) theology. It's about only one thing: reconciling the problem of how an omniscient, omnipotent AND omnibenevolent God can create such an incredibly shitty universe full of pain and suffering and injustice.
To steal a comparison from one Michael Shermer, this is exactly like starting a "scientific" discipline under the name of "Aeroporcinology" - the study of the flight patterns of the common pig.
Of course you will have to work mainly on the central problem - that no one has actually seen pigs fly and all evidence points to them not doing so. Because you start with a foregone conclusion you will be forced to explore possibilities such as the pigs becoming transluscent while in flight.
I should note that most "Theodicians" ignore not only the obvious Occam's razor possibility (that there is no such damn thing as a Jehova) but also the notion that perhaps he's not omniscient, omnipotent AND omnibenevolent. You really only need to remove one of those from the equation, say for instance "omnibenevolence", and you have a workable solution.
This uncommon approach, known as "maltheism", is a pet interest of mine. That is to say, what if God exists but is a complete prick?
Mister Anonymous Coward (assuming it's Gunni), I agree. The Gnostics got it right. An interesting factoid: the Cathars, a later Gnostic sect, were often called Bogomils, and originated in Bulgaria, from whence the word "Bugger" is derived, since the Cathars engaged in intercourse the Turkish way in order to prevent more children from being born into this wicked world.
